On Sunday, in honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service, governors around the country, including Ohio’s Mike DeWine, have ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff.
DeWine ordered all flags, including those of the United States and the state of Ohio, to be lowered to half-staff from dawn to sunset on May 7 in a statement posted by the governor’s office on Saturday.
Flags in Alabama have been lowered to half-staff per Governor Kay Ivey’s instruction in honor of the service.

All firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty are remembered and honored at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial during the annual Memorial Weekend held in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
President Joe Biden has ordered all American flags to be lowered to half-staff until sunset on Thursday, May 11 in commemoration of the eight persons killed and seven more injured in a shooting on Saturday in Allen, Texas.
In open areas, the American flag should only fly from dawn to sunset atop structures and stationary flagpoles. The flag may be flown for a full day and night if it is lighted at night. When raising the flag, do it quickly, but when lowering it, do so with due ceremony.
