Golden Ray shipwreck: Crew member’s dangerous maths sank cargo ship carrying 1000’s of automobiles, report finds

A crew member’s error in calculating the burden of cargo on a ship loaded with 1000’s of automobiles almost certainly precipitated the vessel to capsize off the east coast of the US.

The South Korean freighter, Golden Ray, keeled over again in 2019, and its wreck remains to be partially in situ within the waters off the state of Georgia.

“The chief officer made errors with the ballast tank degree knowledge entry into the shipboard stability calculation pc,” the NTSB report stated, “which led to his incorrect dedication of the vessel’s stability”.
