The name of the man shot and killed in a Birmingham apartment during a family dispute has been released by authorities.

Zevin Lenard Patterson was named as the victim by Birmingham police. He was 27.
The shooting occurred at 9:55 p.m. on Saturday in the 200 block of 59th Street South, inside a Don l. West Manor apartment.

According to Sergeant Monica Law, an argument broke out between two male relatives. They both drew weapons, and one fired at the other.

An autopsy confirmed Patterson’s death at the site. Before the police could arrive, the suspect ran away, but they are still looking for him.

When the fatal gunshot occurred, there were other members of the family inside the flat.

This year’s murder of Patterson in Birmingham is the 130th in the city. Seven have been declared justified and thus are not considered criminal.

In addition to the 130 homicides in Birmingham, there have been 174 in all of Jefferson County.
