A suspect was arrested in Florida on Tuesday in connection with the Sunday night shooting deaths of four people at a marijuana farm in rural Oklahoma, authorities said. A fifth person was injured in the shooting. The victims were described as having been “executed,” and their bodies were discovered after authorities responded to a report of a hostage situation on the farm.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation confirmed late Tuesday that Wu Chen, 45, had been arrested in Miami Beach, Florida.

His vehicle was “flagged” by a car tag reader, leading to his capture by Miami Beach police at 4 p.m. local time, according to an OSBI press release.

According to OSBI, Chen is currently being held in the Miami-Dade County Detention Center pending extradition to Oklahoma, where he will be charged with murder and attempted murder.

The bodies of two people were discovered on a 10-acre property west of Hennessey, roughly 55 miles northwest of Oklahoma City, on Sunday night. OSBI Capt. Stan Florence stated before the suspect’s arrest that officials suspected he knew the victims.

Florence claimed, “They all know each other.” We can’t say for sure if these people are related or work together, but they obviously knew each other.

OSBI said that at around 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, the male suspect entered a building on the farm where numerous workers were present.

A Chinese national was among those injured and flown to a hospital in Oklahoma City. The four deaths are being treated as possible homicide at this time. Since there is a “severe linguistic barrier,” authorities have not yet notified the next of kin.

Florence stated that the Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Office had responded to a report of a hostage scenario at the farm but had subsequently asked for assistance from state officials.

Florence said police used drones, helicopters, and foot patrols to search the property late Sunday and Monday, but they were unable to locate the culprit.

As he put it, “there’s a lot to untangle with this case.” Time is needed for us to analyze the data.

According to Porsha Riley, a spokesperson for the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority, the property in question has an active license to operate as a medical marijuana grow business.

Voters in Oklahoma authorized medicinal marijuana in 2018, and the sector has since exploded as a result of the state’s lax regulation of the practice.

Voters will decide in March if the medication can be used for recreational purposes.

OSBI claimed in a press statement on Tuesday that their investigation shows “the suspect was inside that building for a significant amount of time before the executions began.” It seems from what we know so far that this was not a random event.

OSBI also reported that “three males and one woman – all Chinese Nationals” were executed.
