Heat temperatures in early spring have been adopted by two nights of frost: a deadly mixture that has destroyed most of France’s grape harvest and far of its fruit harvest for this 12 months. Many farmers lit small fires to warmth the air surrounding the vines, whereas others sprinkled their vineyards to create an icy coating over the grapes, like small igloos meant to guard the fruit.
