Shadow and Bone Season 2 Plot: What Could Happen?
Season 2 will most likely continue the plots established in Siege and Storm, Six of Crows, and King of Scars. In light of the show’s cast members, fresh additions to its roster, and the season finale, that’s what I’d expect to happen.
To keep Alina safe from Kirigan’s grasp in season 2, Alina and Mal will have to travel to new countries to avoid being reunited with the Dregs as they did in season 1. In other words, they’ll very certainly meet Nikolai along the way. More on Nikolai later.
Kirigan has used his Darkling abilities to create new Fold creatures known as Nichevo’ya, as shown in the final episode of Season 1. These monsters, in contrast to the Volcra that inhabit the Fold, may roam around in broad daylight. Alina and Mal will have their work cut out for them when they face them.
According to Collider, Netflix’s Kirigan/the Darkling actor, Ben Barnes, is open to the idea of a season 2 that “steers off” from the novel’s tale in the same way that season 1 incorporated the Dregs into Alina’s journey. Season 2 of Shadow and Bone may or may not take this approach, but if it does, it would be an interesting departure from the source material. Although some fans may not agree with the show’s probable deviation from the novels if it occurs, it would provide established fans with new material to enjoy
The Dregs, Nina, and the quintet are likely to work together to release Matthias before the group, and Wylan works together to rescue someone known as Bo Yul-Bayur. In Siege and Storm, the Shu scientist and Fabrikator are imprisoned in Fjerda’s Ice Court for inventing a medication that the Grisha find highly addicting. Though Bo’s rescue in Shadow and Bone season 1 will likely be altered, that show has already adapted the Ice Court heist angle for its original operation to attempt and capture Alina by the Dregs.
In the wake of Zoya, we may see an adaptation of another Grishaverse novel, King of Scars. Bardugo’s second duology gives Zoya a larger role than she had in the Grisha trilogy, and Bardugo indicated in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that the tale from the second could be incorporated into the TV program (opens in new tab).
Season 1 ended with Zoya traveling to Novokribrisk, the city that Kirigan and the Fold decimated, in pursuit of her shattered family members. If Zoya discovers that they are no longer alive, she may once again join forces with the Dregs, as she did in the novel Six of Crows’ Crooked Kingdom. Another possibility is that the three of Tamar, Tolya, and Zoya will join forces in Season 2 of Shadow and Bone, given their previous encounters in King of Scars and their involvement in that season’s show.
Season 2 will be an “insane” ride for viewers, according to Tolya star Lewis Tan (as reported by filmupdates.net(opens in new tab)). “Insanity is about to ensue. I’m looking forward to it, and the cast is quite friendly. They’ve been nothing short of warm and friendly. For the past two months, I’ve been in Hungary, where my team and I have been working extremely hard.”
Adding Lantsov to the cast will allow his storyline from Siege and Storm to play a significant role in the second season. The Darkling hires Lantsov, the former king of Ravka who now goes by the alias of Sturmhond, a pirate captain, to help him track down a mythological dragon known as the Rusalye in the True Sea. When Alina and Mal join forces with Lantsov to stop the Darkling from carrying out his plot, Lantsov joins the fray as well. Expect to see part of Lantsov’s Siege and Storm character arc in the TV show’s origin narrative.
Season 2 of Shadow and Bone will be “bigger, bolder,” according to star Ben Barnes, while newcomer Lewis Tan predicts it will be “heart-pounding, swashbuckling,” in Netflix Geeked Week 2022 trailer. Mei Li and her co-star Archie Renaux have also hinted that love will play a significant role in this season’s storyline. Do many of our heroes have feelings for each other? We’ll see what happens.
For now, fans can look forward to a new and beloved locale in Season 2 of Shadow and Bone. On the little island of Terrenjel, a Kerch prison, Hellgate will be a crucial location in the series. Because of this, it should be easy for fans to figure out why it is. Actors Danielle Gilligan and Calahan Skogman, on the other hand, have described Hellgate as a location where you “can’t unsee.” That’s up to you to decide.
Season 2’s total number of episodes has been revealed. Shadow and Bone will return for a second eight-episode season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This is fantastic news for those of us who appreciated the first season’s offerings.

- Baghra is played by Zoe Wanamaker.
There will be a reunion of the main characters from Shadow and Bone, including Alina Starkov and Mal Oretsov as well as General Kirigan, who was last seen surviving the onslaught in the Shadow Fold in the season 1 finale.
The season 2 cast also includes Kaz Brekker, Jesper Fahey, and Inej Ghafa. While Nina Zenik and Matthias Helvar have a recurring roles in the Six of Crows series, the Dregs’ storyline (more on this below) will be linked to Nina and Matthias. So expect them to join forces as they do in the novels. This was hinted at in season 1’s finale. TVLine reports that Danielle Gilligan and Calahan Skogman have been promoted to series regulars, therefore this narrative is a foregone conclusion.
Wylan Hendriks (whose surname has been changed from ‘Van Eck’ for the TV show) is one of four new confirmed cast members who have made the transition from Bardugo’s book series to the live-action TV series. As a demolitions expert, Wylan Van Eck works with the Dregs inside the Ice Court, Fjerdan’s military stronghold. Wylan will be played by Inside No. 9’s Jack Wolfe (The Witcher) in season 2.
Nikolai Lantsov, a beloved fan favorite, will return in season 2 and be portrayed by Irish actor Patrick Gibson (Tolkien, The Darkest Minds). As Sturmhond, Nikolai leads a pirate armada in support of Ravka’s war effort under the alias Sturmhond. If Netflix’s adaptation follows Siege and Storm’s storyline for season 2, Nikolai’s arrival in the program will be crucial.
Last but not least are the identical twins Tolya Yul-Battar and Tamar Kir-Battar, played by Mortal Kombat’s Lewis Tan and Traces’ Anna Leong Brophy. A Grisha Heartrender, Tolya is a member of Sturmhond’s pirate crew in the novels. Tamar, on the other hand, is a former member of Sturmhond’s crew and a Heartrender. Season 2 of Shadow and Bone is expected to feature some of the storylines from the spin-off novel Zoya, in which the characters meet in.
Baghra, played by Zoe Wanamaker, was previously unconfirmed for season 2. Wanamaker’s reappearance has been all but confirmed by actress Jessie Mei Li(opens in new tab) in an Instagram post. Season 2 will see Daisy Head, who portrayed the Queen’s tailor in season 1, promoted to series regular (per TVLine).
Shadow and Bone Season 2 Release Date: When Will It Come Out?
Season 2 has yet to be given an official release date. However, principal photography ended on June 6, as announced by the actors in a video created especially for Netflix Geeked Week 2022: The Year of the Geek.
What about the second season of Shadow and Bone? Shadow and Bone will now go through a lengthy post-production process, which will include the addition of VFX shots and the musical soundtrack to scenes. Season 2’s premiere could be delayed if reshoots and pick-ups are needed once episode editing begins. Fixing the lighting and sound for specific scenes and sequences is just one of many kinks that must be worked out.
What’s the bottom line? Season 2 of Shadow and Bone will not be released until the end of 2022. Before the year ends, we expect a release date (or window) to be announced, with an official announcement and a possible teaser trailer hitting in early 2023. The second season of Shadow and Bone could premiere in February or March of 2023 if Netflix’s normal practice of releasing teaser trailers is right.
However, if the production team behind Shadow and Bone needs additional time to work out any glitches, we’ll be delighted to wait. The fans will understand if it isn’t with us as quickly as feasible if it is of the best quality imaginable.
Shadow and Bone Season 2 Trailer: Is It Available?
That’s not the case, and it won’t be for a long time yet. If you’re waiting for a trailer for Shadow and Bone season 2, you’ll have to wait a little longer. If we had to guess, we’d say it’ll be sometime in January or February of next year. Even if someone arrives earlier than that, we won’t be upset.
